Audacious 3.8.2 Advanced Audio Player released with Vulnerability fixn Ubuntu 16.10

Audacious is an advanced, feature rich music player for GNOME using GTK 3 interface. While its one of the best lightweight music player, audacious offers a clean interface, with support for real-time audio effects, visualization, equalizer, lyrics as well as other plugins, themes (including Winamp Classic style), powerful configuration options and multiple playlists organized in tabs.

The latest release Audacious 3.8.2, is a very small release with fixes for the following

  • Bogus errors printed at end of .m4a file (due to use-after-free)
  • vulnerability recently discovered in Game_Music_Emu

A Quick look at Audacious New Features

  • You can now run multiple instances of Audacious at once
  • The user interface now handles high-resolution displays better than before hence it no longer appears blurred due to scaling
  • The audio output now uses the native waveOut API for better bit depths
  • The following new audtool commands have been added
    • Enable/disable stream recording as well as
    • Enable/disable any plugin: effects, visualizations, etc.
  • A new plugin added to browse music on an Ampache server
  • The following features ported to Qt interface:
    • Scrobbler setup dialog
    • Context (right-click) menu in the playlist
    • Copy-and-paste of playlist entries
    • “Open Containing Folder” command
    • Desktop notifications and file deletion (via the appropriate plugins)

  • Ability to apply streaming recording to audio effects and equalization is now possible (optional)

  • Album artist support for FLAC and Vorbis files (read-write)
  • Support for the freedesktop.org startup notification protocol
